The Funkatorium taproom and sour beer program debuted in January 20, 2013 in the South Slope area of Asheville, NC. At the time of opening, the original Funkatorium facility was equipped with three sour fermentation tanks, while the rest of the space housed Pilot Brewing systems and two beer engine-based draft systems.
The Funkatorium solely dedicated itself to brewing sour and wild beers. Within the first year of its opening, more tanks were added to the facility, allowing for the production of more sour beers for patrons to enjoy.
The Funkatorium also became one of the few taprooms in the Asheville area specifically offering sours. Since its opening, the Funkatorium has seen great success in the craft beer world and continues to brew some of the most unique sours and wild ales in the Southeast.

Pete’s Wicked Ale was originally founded in 1986 by former Anheuser-Busch brewing executive Pete Slosberg. The craft beer quickly became popular and widely distributed, eventually becoming the second highest selling craft beer in the United States in the mid-1990s.
In 1998, the company was sold to Gambrinus, the fifth-largest brewer in the US, who set to expand the brand.
