The Lying Game concluded its two-season run in 2013 after 21 episodes. The series ended on a major cliffhanger where it was revealed that Emma was another long-lost twin, and she was also the identity of the serial killer that her twin Sutton had been trying to find.

It was revealed that Kristin (Emma’s adoptive mother) was responsible for the murder of the girls’ biological mother and the twins’ coverup. In the final moments, Sutton and Emma were both shown at the scene of the crime, ready to take the police to the evidence needed to bring the killer to justice.

What happened at the end of Lying Game?

At the end of the Lying Game, it is revealed that The Lying Game was actually a social psychological experiment conducted by Dr. A. Sutton, a former professor of Rebecca’s father. The experiment was inspired by the death of Sutton’s daughter, Rebecca’s twin sister, who had been killed in a drowning accident.

The experiment tested the consequences of dishonesty, with Sutton setting up different scenarios where Rebecca and her friends had to make decisions about who to trust and who to lie to. Throughout the experiment, Rebecca’s relationships with her friends changed drastically and she even developed deep feelings for her presumed biological brother, Thayer.

In the end, it was revealed that the person behind the entire experiment was Sutton, and all the consequences of Rebecca’s actions were a part of his testing. He explained his motives to her and her friends, saying it was to test the claim that lies can be beneficial as a form of self-preservation.

Despite the initial shock and anger at being part of the experiment, Rebecca and her friends eventually come to terms with their role in the experiment and accept Sutton’s results. As a result, Rebecca’s relationships with her friends are healed and she finally learns who her biological father is.

By showing her the power of forgiveness, Sutton teaches Rebecca the importance of honesty in relationships.

Who was the killer on The Lying Game?

The killer on The Lying Game was Garrett Foster. Foster was Thayer’s ex-best friend and was harboring a deep-seeded resentment towards Thayer and Sutton Mercer. Initially, Foster framed Kristin Mercer (Sutton’s mother) for the deaths of Laurel Mercer, Garfield Wycoff, and the shooting of Rebecca Sewell, to throw the Mercer twins off his trail.

It was eventually revealed that he was responsible for the murders, along with the kidnapping of Dan Whitehorse and the attempted shooting of Jordan Belcher. He had also killed Mads Rybak, thinking she was Rebecca.

His motive was revenge against the Mercer twins due to his jealousy of their privileged lives, as well as his own perceived betrayal by Thayer. In the season 2 finale, Foster was killed after a confrontation with Rebecca and Mads, although the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear.

Who murdered Sutton in The Lying Game?

The murderer of Sutton in The Lying Game was a character named Emma. She had been convinced by her ex-boyfriend, Ethan Whitehorse, to take the fall for Sutton’s murder, and convinced that the only way to protect him was to take the blame herself.

When Emma and Ethan found out that Sutton had the opportunity to become a member of the prestigious Carmina House, Ethan was jealous of Sutton and plotted to kill her in order to prevent her from having a better life than him.

He enlisted Emma’s help, and together they devised a plan for her to impersonate Sutton, using her identical twin sister, Alex’s, ID.

They set a trap for Sutton, convincing her to come to a deserted location by pretending to text her from Alex’s phone. When Sutton arrived, she was attacked and brutally murdered. Emma felt guilty and terrified that Ethan would be exposed, so she took the blame for Sutton’s murder and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

The mystery of Sutton’s real murderer is finally solved when Emma’s younger brother, Thayer, discovers a confession letter Emma had written. He shares it with his sister, Emma, who had by that time already been released from prison.

Finally, the truth behind Sutton’s murder is unveiled, and everyone is able to move on.
