When did Kennedy School in Portland close?

Kennedy School in Portland closed on January 6th, 2020. The beloved Portland School had been open for over 100 years and was visited by countless students and alumni throughout its lifetime. A local institution, the school was a significant part of Portland’s history and culture and was known for its top-notch education and support of students in the community.

In its final year, the school served over 450 students in kindergarten through 8th grade, including students from both public and private schools. Sadly, as the population of Portland’s downtown began to shift in recent years, the enrollment and enrollmenters of the school began to decline.

Due to the increasing cost of running a school and the decreased number of students, the School Board of the Kennedy School decided to close the school. The last day of school was January 6th, 2020 with a ceremony that ended the legacy of an important Portland institution.
