She didn’t want to be oppressed by the Marley people, so she decided to volunteer to become a Titan. There was a ritual done by Princess Tybur who is of the same clan, she talks of the Founding Titan and says she has been chosen as the one to take on the power of all the Titans – the Coordinate.
With the force and power of the Founding Titan, Annie was able to control the power of all the Titans and was able to transform into a mindless Titan which had no control but her own. Annie was then able to control the action of other Titans subconsciously, which made them into an organized fleet.
She held onto the power of the Founding Titan and with this power in her hand, Annie was able to regress from her Titan form, controlling her own actions and plan.
Can a male get the Female Titan?
No, a male cannot get the Female Titan. In the Attack on Titan universe, the Female Titan is an ability that has only been demonstrated by one character, its original possessor: the former Warrior candidate, Annie Leonhart.
