When was the Wurstfest fire?

The Wurstfest fire occurred on November 8, 1956 in New Braunfels, Texas. The fire started in the late evening near midnight at the back of Wurstfest Hall and quickly spread to the main building. The firemen from the City of New Braunfels worked valiantly to contain the fire but within an hour, the main building had already burned down to the ground.

Wurstfest Hall and its adjoining buildings were completely destroyed and fires continued to rage around the area for another two hours. Reports indicate that the fire spread quickly due to a combination of dry grass, mix of highly flammable sawdust used to insulate the walls, and a breeze that spread the fire faster than the firemen could contain it.

Thankfully due to the efforts of the firemen, the surrounding buildings and homes were spared from the blaze.
